Calling Name (CNAM)
Delivery
Accudata Calling Name service
retrieves stored names associated with a telephone number.
This allows Exchange Carriers to display a name from an
inbound call originating anywhere in the North American
Numbering Plan area. We can even enable CNAM display for wireless providers. Accudata has
also released a version of Asterisk code that can be modified for
your Linux version and Asterisk release. VOIP service providers
can use this after modification to deliver Calling Name for Caller ID
devices that are IP enabled. Contact our sales department for
more information.
Ask us about our new, lower cost calling name service, AccuName, pulling from a national CNAM database.
Businesses also use CNAM for other purposes, such as added levels of security,
verification of identity, or
telemarketing.
CNAM has also recently been in the news and discussed in
Congress due to number spoofing. This is the ability of some
dialers, VOIP providers, and other telco related companies and
devices to replace the number of the outbound call with another
number that may or may not be a legitimate number.
Many legitimate business concerns use spoofing to allow fund
raising from a call center for charities and political
parties. The spoofed number is stored in a CNAM database with
the name of the campaign rather than the name associated with the
actual telephone line being used. This is a helpful service,
as opposed to those who are trying to hide the number from the
called party.
